Monty Roberts Introductory Certificate of Horsemanship

This Introductory Course is your chance to study the training methods and concepts of Monty Roberts. Students from various equine backgrounds are welcome to take part.. For those with little or no horse experience or people that are wanting to overcome a “fear” of horses, we recommend prior participation in the Horsemanship 101 class.

The aim of the course and the “homestudy” element is to provide you with a good overall knowledge of all aspects of horsemanship, including breeding, feeding, nutrition, horse preformance and management and of course has a very strong emphasis on horse psychology and learning. Through a combination of practical “hands on horse” round pen work, demonstrations and classroom based theory work you will gain a valuable insight into Monty’s methods, including Join-Up, Dually Halter work and long lining.

The first step to becoming a Certified Monty Roberts Instructor can be acheived in the UK and requires the following:-

2 Home/Field Study – Your chance to put what you have learnt into practice, and work with as many different “safe” i.e. trained and already backed horses as you can. Submit your work to be assesed by Chris.
3 Introductory Review and Exams [4 days] – this consists of written and practical exams.

Successful completion of these three steps will give you the Monty Roberts Introductory Certificate of Horsemanship. Graduates of this Introductory Course are offered the opportunity to continue their education by completing the Advanced Course and exams at Flag Is Up Farms and, upon personal selection by Monty, the Instructors’ Internship. Only Certified Instructors are able to teach, demonstrate and advertise their services for monetary gain.
