Training the Young Horse

Over the course of 2 days, come and learn how to start a young horses learning off and setting them up for success

We will be taking them from their basic leading skills, and introducing more “complicated” leading lessons which all horses should know, including rope skills, standing still, farrier lessons and the beginnings of “training off pressure” which will become a vital skill once they start their ridden work. Helping to build their confidence when the unexpected happens, and how you can train them to be ok when they are spit away from their field mates…

We will look how you can teach the young horse the “seeds” of knowledge they need to learn which form the basics of understanding for more complicated skills later in life.

In other words, how we can teach the young horse the answers to the questions BEFORE he needs to know them… rather than wait until you are asking him the big questions later in life.

You will see how we prep them for saddles, longlining and rein work long before you put the tack on!

How you can prep them for clippers, farriers, bathing, vet visits, first aid etc that all horses will experience through their lives, so when it happens for real the horse is more confident than he otherwise would be…

This is your unique opportunity to develop your skills when working with the younger un-trained youngster and potentially nervous horses that know little of the domesticated world they will be being adopted out to, and how to adapt the learning to the horse you are working with. You will learn how to break down tasks into their component parts to help the horse learn in a way that makes sense to them.

You’ll also learn more in-depth horse psychology and behaviour and begin to appreciate how every move you make and the intent behind it is read by the horse.

This weekend is NOT suitable for beginners,  some horse handling experience is a must and need to be comfortable around young horses.

student numbers will be limited allowing you maximum time with the horses, so grab your place whilst they’re available.
